Lionel Messi is widely considered to be the greatest soccer player of all time. Messi was born in Rosario, Argentina, on June 24, 1987. He began playing soccer at a young age and quickly showed his talent. He joined the youth academy at Newell's Old Boys, but he was eventually diagnosed with growth hormone deficiency. This condition would have prevented him from playing professional soccer without expensive treatment.
In 2000, Messi was discovered by Barcelona scouts. The club agreed to pay for his treatment and bring him to Spain. Messi made his Barcelona debut in 2003 and quickly became one of the best players in the world. He won his first Ballon d'Or award in 2009 and went on to win the award six more times.
Messi led Barcelona to numerous trophies, including 10 La Liga titles, four UEFA Champions League titles, and three FIFA Club World Cup titles. He also won the Copa América with Argentina in 2022, the country's first major international title since 1986.
Messi left Barcelona in 2021 and joined Paris Saint-Germain. He won the Ligue 1 title with PSG in 2022, but he left the club at the end of the season. In 2023, he joined Inter Miami, a Major League Soccer team.
